Self-Care is important in every aspect of your life, but self-care is especially important when learning how to work from home, and making your schedule.

Here are some self-care tips for every blogger, whether a beginner or someone who has been working at blogging for a while.

Better Time Management As A Blogger

Blogging is not only enjoyable, but it needs to be seen as your work.  Managing your time is key to having a successful blog.

Start the day with a schedule.  You need to schedule the times that you will be sitting down to

  • Researching
  • Writing
  • Taking photos
  • Editing
  • Taking breaks
  • Start and finishing, etc.

While in the beginning, you can adjust your schedule, getting it to how it works for you, once you have your schedule, Stick to It.

Without a daily schedule, it can be too easy to procrastinate and waste precious time.  Working for yourself requires discipline, and a schedule will keep you disciplined.  It guides you for the day and prevents you from getting distracted.

At the end of the day, it will leave you feeling productive, looking forward to starting again the next day.  Don’t worry if you haven’t finished everything that you were trying to attempt that day.  Any unfinished work can be added to the schedule for the next day.

Another thing that can be helpful is having a to-do list.  Write a list of everything that needs to be done and prioritize your list for the day.  This will keep you working and will make sure that those little things are getting done as well.

Take Enough Breaks Between Blogging

Getting your work done is important but taking enough breaks is just as important.  The longer you stare at the screen the more likely you will slow down.

Employers give their employees around 3-4 breaks during one shift, they don’t do this out of the goodness of their hearts.  Taking a break helps you to recharge your batteries so when you get back to work you working to the best of your ability.

This also applies when you are blogging.

Blogging day in and day out can become mentally draining so we must take enough breaks during our work schedule so the work we produce is as best as it can be.

I like to take a break every hour for 15 minutes, this might seem a bit too much, but it works for me.  It might be different for you and you might only need a break every few hours.

When you take a break, completely focus on relaxing and not thinking about what you have been working on.

I like to make a coffee and watch some Big Bang Theory.  Once I go back to writing blog content it comes more easily.

Eating Well While Blogging

Just like the old saying goes, a car cannot run properly without fuel.  Our bodies are the same.  Without proper nutrition, we are not able to function at our best.

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  If you are like me though, food is not what I go for first thing in the morning, it is my coffee.  But I have learned eating a little something in the morning helps me to get my brain functioning.

When you are focused on your writing it can be really easy to forget to stop and eat.  Keeping snacks around while you are working is a good idea.

Nuts, fruit, vegetables, or cheese and crackers don’t take long to prepare. Having a plate of snacks in view will help you to remember to eat something plus your body will be receiving the nutrients that it needs to keep going.

So, while you are working hard all day don’t forget to give your brain the power that it needs to keep working as well.  Eat and snack well during the day.

Get Enough Sleep As Blogger

Getting enough sleep is more vital more than you may think.  We have all been there, not getting a good night’s sleep, and the next day you just feel that everything is in slow motion.

Lack of sleep affects your motivation to do anything, so if you want to have a productive day it is important to get enough sleep.

Research tells us that we should get at least 7-9 hours of sleep every night.

If you are like me and find it hard to sleep by a certain time, what I did to resolve this issue was to not use my mobile phone in bed.  You know what it’s like, you pick your mobile to check Facebook, and then an hour later you are on YouTube or playing games.

As a blogger, you are blessed to make your working hours, which means you can go to sleep and wake up when you like, however working as a blogger can also lead to bad sleeping habits.

So, it is important to work until a certain time and then give yourself some time after work to wind down.

Drink Water While Blogging

Drinking water throughout the day is so important and something that I struggled with.  It is important to keep yourself hydrated so that you remain alert, and don’t feel tired throughout the day.

Instead of having water nearby, I would always have a cup of coffee sitting next to me while I was working.  Later in the afternoon, I would begin to feel tired.

Once I decided to have a glass of water nearby, and I started drinking more water.  I began to notice a small difference, I felt a bit more alert.  I had the motivation to work in long strides and I just felt better overall.

While I do still have my coffee nearby, I also keep a glass of water there as well to remind me to keep drinking it.

When you begin to feel tired there is nothing like a cold glass of water to refresh your body and your mind.

So, don’t forget to keep drinking water with all of that coffee.

Go Out And Get Fresh When You Blog

Being stuck at the computer all day writing articles can become lonely, and sometimes even when you are working your mind is elsewhere thinking about other things.

Take a break and go out for some fresh air.  This will help your mind stay focused on what you are working on.

You don’t need to go for a long walk even just going out for 5 minutes will help your body to get the energy to keep working.

One of the greatest things I enjoy about blogging is I can change locations.  Sometimes changing the environment that you are working in can also have a positive impact on your work.

I find that working at the dining room table helps me work harder because it’s right next to 3 large windows which bring in plenty of light and I can open the windows and feel a nice breeze.

I like to go out for a short walk before I even start writing for the day.  This helps me to get ready for the day plus wakes me up. haha

Fresh air is very important to keep you alert and motivated, as well as keeping you awake.

Rest Your Eyes From Blogging

It is so important to rest your eyes when staring at a computer screen all day.  Not only will your eyes get tired but not giving your eyes a rest can also cause headaches.

It is hard enough keeping yourself focused in the beginning when learning how to keep yourself disciplined, but it is impossible to do your best work when you have a headache or eyes that are tired.

Give yourself short breaks to rest your eyes.  Take about 5 minutes every hour to just close your eyes or do something else for a short time.  Something that doesn’t include looking at a computer screen, or mobile phone.

There are some signs that I would notice letting me know that I needed to rest my eyes.  Some of the warning signs that I noticed alerting me that I needed a break from the screen were:

  • Headaches
  • Everything starting to look blurry
  • Seeing dots while working
  • My eyes started to droop

Take A Day Off From Blogging

Setting aside a day away from blogging is a must.  Sometimes when you work for yourself you don’t realize that you need some time to recharge your batteries to refocus on your work.

Could you imagine what you would be like If you worked for an employer and worked for 2 weeks without a day off?  You might be at work but your mind would be elsewhere.  This also applies when you are a blogger.

It’s important that you set aside a day where you can completely forget about blogging and do something else you enjoy such as

  • Spend more time with family.
  • Spend time with friends.
  • Go out for a meal.
  • Watch your favorite tv show.

Remember you work for yourself and you’re the boss, so you can set which day to take off.  You don’t need to take the same day off each week.

I like to plan my day off ahead so this way I have something to look forward to.  Also, I like to plan something to do for my day off.

There’s no point working until you drop if you can’t enjoy the things that make you happy.

Treat Yourself For Achieving Your Blog Goals

It is important to remember to treat yourself after a long week of work.  It can be something as simple as going to your favorite coffee shop, or something such as going away for the day or even catching up with friends.

The thing to remember is that even though you are working hard to create a successful blog, it is important to also enjoy life.  Working from home can keep you in a bubble of isolation, and you must spend time with others.

Some employers give bonuses to their employees for their hard work.  Look at treating yourself as a bonus that you deserve and earned.

You have worked hard and you deserve a reward.  Also, don’t forget to celebrate those achievements that you have made so far.
