9 Reasons Why You Should Start A Blog In 2021

Are you considering starting your own blog? Let me share with you 9 reasons why you should start a blog.  Every blogger goes through this stage when we just need some reassurance.

When I first started blogging, I did not believe that I could have a successful blog. 

You read all the success stories online, but you don’t really believe them because you think it’s someone trying to sell you their product. 

This was me before I took a leap of faith to start my own blog.

Fast forward a few years, now that I look back and see what is possible, I would easily recommend starting a blog to most people.

The reason I said most people is because you need to have the right approach with the right attitude when starting a blog.

Starting a blog isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme.  It’s a full-time job that requires a lot of hard work.

Don’t listen to people who claim to have made big bucks overnight with their blogs.

Yes!  you can earn a very good income from blogging to support your family, your lifestyle etc.  But it takes time and a lot of hard work, like anything else in life.

Being your own boss in a time where job security is not guaranteed is very appealing and if you have the patience to learn the skill needed then you too can be your own boss.

Having a successful blog is a massive achievement that will give you confidence not only in yourself but in your abilities.

Let’s look at 9 Reasons Why You Should Start A Blog.

Being Your Own Boss

Running your own blog means being your own boss.  This was one of the main reasons why I started blogging.

Even though starting your own blog can be fun and exciting, it still needs to be taken seriously.  The more work you put into a blog, the bigger the reward will be.

Starting a blog and being your own boss comes with many benefits such as:

• Choosing your own work hours.
• Working from home, in my case working from all my favorite coffee shops. lol
• Planning your own work schedule.
• Anything you earn is all yours, well, after paying all the taxes ugh.

There are many other benefits, but these are the ones that attracted me to start my own blog many years ago.

Working for yourself is a huge achievement but it comes with a steep learning curve. 

One of the biggest challenges I faced in the beginning was to do my own taxes. 

At the moment I’m based in the UK and here in the UK if you are employed the employer does your taxes for you.  So, when I became self-employed, I had to do my own taxes.

Doing your own taxes can be a frightening experience but once you have done it once or twice it becomes second nature.

For me drinking lots of coffee helped. lol

Getting Paid For What You Enjoy Doing

One of the best reasons to start a blog is getting paid for what you enjoy doing.

I know so many people who hate their jobs and just do their job for the paycheck. 

For them, every day is the same routine, they wake up, go to work which they hate, come home and repeat.

For you to enjoy running your own blog there is one important step you need to take and that is choosing the correct niche.  If you get this step wrong, it can be an uphill struggle to write content for your blog.

A niche is a specific topic that you want to write about in your blog. 

How to choose the right niche for your blog is the most important step that you will take before you start writing.

Before you choose your niche, you need to ask yourself the following questions.

• What are you good at?
• What do you enjoy doing?
• What is your main reason to start a blog?

Most bloggers fail to run a successful blog because they chose the wrong niche to begin with.

For example, if you enjoy working in the garden and you know all about plants and flowers etc.  Starting a blog about gardening could be your perfect niche, because not only do you enjoy gardening, but you have the experience to teach others.

If you choose a niche that suits your interests, you will find it easier to write articles on the topic.

However, if you choose a niche that you have no interest in, it will be an uphill struggle having to write articles on a topic that you are not really interested in.

More Time To Spend With Family, Friends And Hobbies  

We all want to spend more time with our loved ones but working a 9-5 job does not really exist nowadays for most people. 

Most employers expect their employees to work a mixture of shifts (morning/day and night).

So, when you decide to start your own blog and make a success of it, one of the best benefits you get is more time to spend with the people you care about.

This is what I love about blogging.  I get to spend more time with my family.

• You choose your own working hours. 
• You choose what days you take off.
• No need to ask anyone (employer) when you can take a day off.

Before I started blogging, I was working crazy hours for my ex-employer and now when I look back, I think, “what was the point of me working all those hours if I could not spend time with my family when I wanted to”.

Running a blog is not an overnight success, it takes time and a lot of hard work.  But the rewards are worth it in my opinion.

Now I get to spend more time with my family.

If you are serious about starting a blog, you too can achieve this.

Blogging Gives You More Confidence In Yourself

When you try something new and succeed in it, it gives your confidence a boost.  There is nothing wrong with feeling that you have achieved something new in life.

When it comes to starting your own blog.  It doesn’t matter if you’re a confident person or a quite person.

You can be the center of attention through your own blog and network with people within the safety of your own limits.

Personally, I am not the most confident person in the world but when I started my blog it gave me the extra confidence I needed in my own abilities. 

It was not easy but now that I look back it was absolutely worth it.

Learning New Skills

Learning a new skill that you have a genuine interest in, will make it easier to learn.  So, if you really want to start your own blog then you will no doubt enjoy learning the steps involved.

Not saying it will be smooth sailing all the way but with patience anything is possible.

 When you start your blog, you will learn many skills such as:

• Writing SEO-friendly articles.
• Setting up your blog
  • Hosting & Domain
• Setting up WordPress and installing the correct plugins.
• Networking with people on social media such as Facebook and Instagram etc.
• Promoting and selling your own products.
• Building an email list.
• The list goes on and on.

I know this might seem overwhelming for some, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed when it comes to something new. 

But with time and practice, things will get easier.  Every blogger goes through these emotions even I did when I started.

Financial Freedom

Making a good income from your blog is every blogger’s dream.  If you are willing to put in the hard work, then this is achievable.

Making money from your blog will provide you with the financial freedom to achieve your dreams including:

• Paying off your mortgage/buying a new house.
• Buying a new car.
• Going on a nice holiday every year.
• Spending more time with your loved ones. Etc.
• Whatever your dream is, it can be reached with time and hard work.

Blogging should not be seen as a hobby if you plan to make money from it.  Like any business, its main purpose is to have a financial turnover.

You should always have the end goal in mind. 

How much do you want to earn from your blog in a few years? Answering this question will give you a clearer idea of what you need to do to achieve your goals.

Well, if this is you then you will be surprised to learn there are many ways a blog can make an income.

As you can see, when you start your own blog it opens many doors for you to earn an income. 

The harder you work the more you will earn. 

Some bloggers make 5 figure sums each month and some even more. It all depends on how much work you put into it.

It’s better to give than to receive, as the saying goes.

Starting your own blog gives you a fantastic platform to help others.  Especially in the strange times, we are living in.

People usually visit a website to find an answer to their questions.  So, if your readers find what they are looking for then they are more likely to come back to your blog.

A successful blog helps its readers find the answers they are looking for.  Not only does this built trust but it also gives your readers value.

The key to having a successful blog is to have trust between you and your readers.

A platform where your readers can relate to what you are writing about.

My wife thinks we should open a coffee shop, which is a great idea but knowing us we will drink all the coffee ourselves lol.
